The University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) is proud to announce that its ECMO Program has been recognized by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as a Silver Level Award Recipient, earning the designation "On the Path to Excellence in Life Support." The recognition is valid from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029.

The ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support recognizes ECMO programs worldwide that demonstrate exceptional quality, safety, and patient care through established processes, procedures, and systems. As a newer program, UVMMC achieved the highest recognition level currently available—the Silver Path to Excellence Award. The program's overall score ranked among the top-performing Silver Level recipients and exceeded the benchmark required for recognition.

This achievement reflects the dedication and collaboration of UVMMC's multidisciplinary ECMO team, whose commitment to clinical excellence, quality improvement, education, and data stewardship helps deliver life-saving care to some of the region's most critically ill patients.

ELSO is an international nonprofit organization that supports providers and healthcare institutions delivering extracorporeal life support through education, clinical guidelines, research, and the world's largest ECMO patient registry.

The UVMMC ECMO team will be formally recognized for this accomplishment at the ELSO Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, this September.
